There's always something.

I just got back from the midnight showing, so I figured I'd start a thread. In all honesty, I am absolutely speechless. This was, in my opinion, the most incredible movie in the trilogy- if not the most incredible movie I've ever seen.

For a long time now, I've been attempting to handle the issue of great things eventually coming to an end. I understand the fact that I have much time before I get to this point, but college is genuinely scaring me. The thought of leaving my childhood behind and entering a whole new level of adulthood... it's even making me tear up at the moment. Everything is just currently going so well. I don't want any of it to ever leave me. That's why Toy Story 3 has already become a life changing movie for me in many reasons.

First, I'll begin with the sentiment I hold for Buzz, Woody, and the gang. Toy Story 1 was released only a year before I was born, so naturally, it became a large part of my childhood. This was increased even more by the release of the sequel in 1999. I grew up watching this movies and viewing the characters as my best friends. I grew up with them. Throughout the years, they kept me happy when my spirits seemed to be the opposite. They were a prominent aspect of who I was. My childhood was a bit like Andy's; everyday would bring a new adventure with Woody, Buzz, or Jessie. Smiley

Though the prospect of all of this ending was a bit difficult to cope with, I was able to relate with everyone in the movie. The toys being rejected, Andy unable to leave behind his childhood memories. The good times I had come to relate with the Toy Story series were coming to an end. There were spontaneous moments when I would slightly tear up just because of this fact.

The last thirty minutes... I honestly cannot remember ever crying as hard as I did in that time, each tear shed for a different purpose. The incinerator scene was absolutely horrible for me to go through. I honestly believed with all of my heart that it would be the end of the series; the end to my childhood. I was a wreck. The tears intensified when each of the toys grabbed hands; facing the realization of their final outcome together. Tears of happiness arrived when they were saved; I never would have expected that to happen.

When Andy plopped down into the grass to play with his toys and Bonnie one last time... that was the most bittersweet moment I have ever experience. On one hand, you're relieved that the gang stays a family and now have someone who will treat them as Andy did before. On the other hand, there's a sense that Bonnie is not their true owner. You go through the series focusing on the toy's love and devotion for Andy, until the end of this movie... when it's just, over. Simply over. Yet, I was still so happy for their new life together with Bonnie.
Once I get my thoughts together a bit more, I might be able to discuss is more thouroughly. So please, excuse my absent mindedness at the time. Tongue I can't gather my words as well as normal at the moment.

10/10. Easily my new favorite movie.

Plot Synopsis:

”Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives? In the third installment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future.”

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: Pixar has shown with their initial ten films that they haven’t the faintest clue how to make a bad movie. And yet, somehow, I always find myself feeling doubtful whenever a trailer for one of their new films is released. With Toy Story 3, I got the impression that it would be just another adventure with Woody and the gang for the sake of having one. So, with this, and a movie year that has been relatively lacking so far, would Toy Story 3 disappoint? The answer: absolutely not.

Probably the most surprising aspect about this film is that, even after eleven years since the release of Toy Story 2, the material that has made this series so damn enjoyable hasn’t been lost one bit here. All of the old characters are just endearing as ever, if not more so, and all of the new ones feel right at home here. Ken (voiced by Michael Keaton) is especially hilarious, to the point where even the mention of him got me laughing.

To touch briefly on the visual front, the characters themselves are just as expressive as they’ve always been. However, like Wall-E, the world that they inhabit looks much more photorealistic this time around. Also, this is one of the few instances when the 3D aspect actually enhances the film. It’s by no means as crucial to the experience in the same way that it was for Avatar, but it gives the film a little extra something.

The action sequences, too, are spectacular. These are toys that we’re talking about, and somehow, Pixar’s managed to provide these scenes with one hell of a punch. Not much else to say about ‘em other than that the climax in particular feels as epic as anything from The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

What really puts Toy Story 3 above most films out there, though, is how it deals with the themes of loss and growing up. Even after getting to know these characters over the course of two films, I was still surprised by just how much I got sucked into their despair. Without giving anything away, there were two scenes that caused me to tear up, and even more that had me on the verge of doing so.

Toy Story 3 is not only a worthy conclusion to a fantastic trilogy, but also the one third installment (other than Return of the King) that I feel is better than its predecessors. For all of the reasons already mentioned and more, it’s one of the studio’s best entries. Sorry for doubting you, Pixar, even if it was just for a bit.

9.8/10

One of my favorites now! I grew up with the movies, Toy Story was the first ever movie I saw in theaters when I was 2 years old. Then I went and saw TS2 in theaters when it came out. And now, I'm headed off to college next year just like Andy. I've really grown up alongside him and the gang. This movie was just...wow! I loved it so much! It packed so much emotion and heart into every ounce of it. Smiley And I was tearing out at the end, but wow it was so excellent. Smiley

I was shaking for at least an hour after the end of the movie. I was really scared by the last thirty minutes (if you've seen the movie you will know the sequence I'm talking about).

Correction, now you can remove your vote and re-add it (had to check the "allow users to change vote" box).  Should give you the option on the poll now.

This movie matched the wonder and magic of Wall-E for me.  Smiley I absolutely adored the film and feel somewhat privileged to have seen it! The dinosaurs comedy was obviously a big help.  Tongue

Andy reminded me of myself considering I'm almost 17 and college is coming up for me as well.  Smiley
